Who is perinatal psychotherapy for?

Perinatal psychotherapy is a specialist area of psychotherapy that supports the emotional and psychological wellbeing of women, partners and couples before, during and after becoming parents. This can include the time before conception, pregnancy, birth, the postnatal period and the early years of parenting.

See who it can benefit
Can my baby be with me during sessions?

Yes. Babies are welcome, and feeding or settling them during a session is completely fine.

Do I need a referral?

No. You can get in touch directly. I also accept referrals from GPs, midwives, psychiatrists, public health nurses and other healthcare professionals.

Can my partner come too?

Yes. I work with women, partners and couples, either individually or together.

Is what I share confidential?

Yes. What you share in therapy is confidential. The main exceptions are where there is a serious risk of harm to you or someone else, where there are child protection concerns, or where disclosure is required by law. As part of professional practice, I attend regular clinical supervision, which is a requirement for psychotherapists registered with professional bodies. I may discuss aspects of my work in supervision, while protecting your identity and confidentiality. The limits of confidentiality will be explained in more detail in the therapeutic contract shared with you before your first session.

How many sessions will I need?

It depends on what brings you to therapy. Some people come for a few months, others longer. We review it together as we go.
